CFANS Homecoming Royalty!
Meet Weston Schwecke, CFANS student and member of the U of M 2023 Homecoming Royalty Court
Homecoming is extra special for CFANS this year with animal science student Weston Schwecke on the U of M 2023 Homecoming Royalty Court roster. We talked with him last week as he prepared for Homecoming activities in anticipation of Ski-U-Mania and the football game on September 30. (Students: vote for Royalty through Sept. 29 at noon.)
Tell us a little bit about yourself! Who are you and what are you studying?
I am Weston Schwecke and I am a junior studying animal science. I am from the small town of Gibbon, Minnesota, where my family lives on a pig and cattle farm. Two things that any of my friends would probably use to describe me are: goofy and animal expert. I like to think that I have a good relationship with everyone on the St. Paul campus and am often told that I bring the fun. People know me as an animal expert because I have multiple kinds of exotic animals at home. Some animals that I’ve had include: fox, emu, coatimundi, chinchilla, and many more.
What is your favorite part of homecoming week?
My favorite part of homecoming is all the events that take place during the week. It is a great place to meet people and get the whole University involved.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to spend my free time with friends, anything from watching a movie, playing video games or sitting around a bonfire.
What are you looking forward to most about this semester?
This semester I am most looking forward to being on the Homecoming Court, I have already met so many great people and learned a lot. I am looking forward to attending more events and getting to know the rest of the Court more.
If you could say one thing to University students, what would it be? Why?
I would encourage students to do what scares them because you will never know what the outcome will be. I was scared to come to a big city for college after growing up in a small town but I can say it was one of the greatest decisions of my life. I have met so many great people and have had wonderful experiences because I did something that scared me.
What’s a little-known fact about you?
A little-known fact about me is that I had an internship in Costa Rica this past summer.
