Researchers uncover hidden hunting tactics of wolves in Minnesota's Northwoods
February 9, 2021
Wolves are well-studied large predators in the world, yet new research shows there is still a lot to learn about their hunting tactics. Typically, wolves hunt large mammals like moose in packs by outrunning and exhausting their prey. However, in North America and Eurasia, wolves often hunt beavers by themselves. Lead author and conservation sciences PhD student Tom Gable and co-author and fisheries, wildlife and conservation biology professor Joseph Bump share more about their fascinating discoveries. Included in the story you'll find a video that follows a beaver that is mostly unaware of the wolf cutout nearby.
